@Cyborgneticz Yeah, and (un)fortunately, the point about reading literary sources for historical significance is kind of my entire schtick as a scholar. Un in parentheses because for the most part it's been received well. The review in question was a revise and resubmit.

I personally think we gotta rethink bragging. Just mentioning you got a book deal after I asked if you thought of one isn't bragging. Plus! I mention my book shit all the time lmao so I'm in no place to judge. I'm a bragging apologist.
@Academicats I feel like fediverse is very pro-bragging, which is something I love on here.
And also praising people? I feel like I get and give a lot of genuine compliments on here, and it's lovely cause there's no reason for it - like you aren't getting clout for pointing out how amazing your friend is at something. It's lovely.
@Cyborgneticz I have a theory that the federated structure tends to filter out negative/low quality posts from the timeline, i.e. you only see your own, self-selected instance (so, lots of positivity) and posts that managed to break out of other instances (so, more likely positive). So far it seems to maintain a good balance of gatekeeping and promoting engagement.
@Academicats I like the structure a lot! I was never on twitter (first cause I was a hipster high schooler snob when it came out, and then I just never made an account cause meh) so I can only compare it to like...facebook which isn't similar at all
