I am already an at Mastodon's new feature in v2.1.

Elephant whisperers, please help me.

I can create a new list. But how do I put people into that list? I click on "Edit list," and I see a pop-up that says "Search among people you follow." I type in the handle of somebody that I follow and.... xyzzy nothing happens.

Nor when I bring up a column for an individual whom I already follow do I see anything like "Add this person to a list."

How can I be like the Cool Kidz?

@BruceTindall I think you have to wait for them to post new toots before they show up in the column...

@lauraritchie I'm not sure I understand your answer but I think it's saying "They -- toots from the people in that list -- will show up in the column dedicated to that list as they occur, starting now, but past toots won't show up there."'

But my problem is that there are no "people in that list," and I don't know how to add people to that list. Once I add them, I will see their toots in the list's column, but I can't add any people. That's what I'm ignorant of what to do.

@BruceTindall when you get to the search for people you know, I had to type the full handle of someone and press enter and then the name came up and I could click on it. Then there was an x next to the person and when I 'shut' that selection, they appeared in the list. pics attached - searching for someone and adding them. Hope that helps. mastodon.social/media/n-6yNeNA

@lauraritchie Thanks for the info and the screenshot. I can make people show up IF they are on my own home instance -- as Eugen is on yours -- but I can't get anybody from other instances to show up. Have you had success with adding any of your "followees" from other instances to your lists?

@BruceTindall yep! You have to be following them- and I had to type your WHOLE handle. No autocomplete :) mastodon.social/media/BiPv6ixf

@lauraritchie Well, gosh. That DOES work. Thank you for trying that.

And I just discovered the explanation. If the other person's instance is down, then you can't find them!

And the one person I was using as my test case is, guess what, on @cybre.space, which is in fact down at the moment (probably to install 2.1).

I guess I can just chalk it up to being a . Thanks for your help!

@BruceTindall for some reason you have to press enter after typing the handle to make the search happen. It doesn't go automatically like you'd expect.

@BruceTindall I don’t understand how that works either tbh.
