The UK gov released this report on racism in the UK at 1 am
And while my twitter feed is going through the report (many Blk Brits on my tl) one thing that just came out is that Blk British women die in childbirth 5x the rate of white women. And that number increases yearly.
Heres a link to the report and the original tweet
@CaribenxMarciaX It would be of interest (and is important) to investigate the root cause of that statistic. Poor hospitals in the areas they live? poor pre-natal care from midwives? Food/nutritional deserts?
@pequenopete so the various forms of racism? Bc that's the best way to categorize that
@CaribenxMarciaX "The death rate for Black women in childbirth is five times higher than for white women. The NHS acknowledge and regret this disparity but have no target to end it" Holy fucking shit.
@Shrigglepuss Yep. They've know about this for years
and they don't give a shit. It's just a "oh well, can't be helped" . @CaribenxMarciaX@scholar.sociall
@CaribenxMarciaX Now that the report Johnson begrudgingly commissioned to add to the pile of previous reports on the subject of racism within the UK (that led nowhere in particular, clearly) as some meek reaction to the recent re-energised momentum of the BLM movement, *again* shows what a horrific deep mess racism is here and lays it on the table once more, can we *now* have some tangible meaningful effort against racism from the government or will they brush it all under the rug as per?
@CaribenxMarciaX I'm getting proper sick of them doing the ol' "we'll ask for a report to look proactive and none of us will read it" routine
(deleted and re-drafted for a pretty bad angry typo oops)
@Shrigglepuss This has been going on for decades. I am old enough to have seen this rinse & repeat so. many. times. When I was in my 20s & doing MH training, Black & PoC were pointing out how extreme the difference was in outcomes for Black service users. The cause wasn't a mystery nearly 30 years ago & it isn't now. Fuck this crappy country.
@Shrigglepuss that's what ppl expect bc yea..
@CaribenxMarciaX It's like they -want- to be racist, the racists know it and are laughing I'm sure. The most action we can expect from the majority of MPs is them fully pushing their fingers in their ears at what they can still see in front of their face
@Shrigglepuss they want to be, and they want a gov that promotes it
@CaribenxMarciaX Remember when people were trashing the US for having these stats? As if misogynoir is a uniquely American thing 😫
@guerrillarain yeap! But pointing this out becomes suddenly 'oppression olympics" and gatekeeping when really were trying to undo all forms of oppression
