Re- for the wave of new folks?

I'm a masters student and TA in communication and rhetorical studies, currently finishing up a thesis using methods from discourse analysis to examine how identities--in particular, gendered identities--are constructed, applied, and disputed on 4chan's /r9k/ board. Coming soon, to a Proquest near you.

In general, my interests revolve around: new materialism, post- humanism, internet studies, and discourse analysis.

I don't bite. Well, sometimes.

As for not-necessarily-scholarly interests...

I'm a coffee nerd and put far too much effort and money into brewing coffee. I'm also a big craft beer fan, but haven't made the jump to homebrewing yet.

I'm also a long-time tabletop roleplaying player, almost always GMing a game or designing adventures. I'm currently on GM hiatus due to my workload, but began playing in a campaign recently! We plan to produce an actual play podcast in the Spring.

@Dialectrical well you've certainly piqued my interest!! i have yet to actually come across the term "internet studies" but i love it already

@ambientnaturecultures @Dialectrical i feel like internet studies and social informatics are the same set of interests but approached using two slightly different intellectual languages. one focused on the artifact, one focused on the social process
