In statistical seismology, it is common to analyze the magnitude distribution (i.e., b-value) of an earthquake sequence (e.g., for studying the underlying physical processes and for forecasting purposes). In our paper, we introduce a new perspective for doing so: spatially isolating seismogenic zones to provide an appropriate scale to resolve the b-value.
