I've heard people scoff at the initiatives to clap for health care workers and first responders. Here's the thing: it's not actually for them, it's for the people doing the clapping, as counter-intuitive as it may sound. I think the initiatives were about the people doing the clapping to feel connected to the people around them in such trying and isolated times.

@SamVente Completely agree. Our local area (~6 apartment buildings facing each other) seems so much like a community than a disparate gathering of buildings on Thursday evenings.
