#signlanguage #linguistics #introduction #rstats On the off chance that some sign language linguistics people are part of the current twitter-exodus (re:Elon-gate) here's me:
American living in Norway teaching sign language linguistics my 3rd and 4th languages. Interested in the psychology of bimodal bilingualism. I also spend a lot of time doing data analysis for my co-authors but I've basically just fooled them all into thinking I know what I am doing. Currently on sick leave for brain cancer.
How do you describe the units of a PCA axis? Are they "unitless", or "eigenvector coordinates" or?
#rstats would you ever put a decision tree (like the result of a CART analysis) on a conference poster with folks who don't know the method at all or nah too much work to explain?

T, G, P, Q are completely wrong in the video. Many others have smaller errors.
I really hope the project owners will read these articles:

#linguistics A somewhat counterintuitive confession from an academic, but I really struggle to stay focused for long periods reading. I admit this because I have been very interested in reading Linguistic Bodies (https://mitpress.mit.edu/books/linguistic-bodies). In a fit of laziness after purchasing the book I happened upon the following talk on youtube: https://youtu.be/9tg2uP222YA which has been a great introduction to the main ideas. I highly recommend a listen. Or if you don't have my attention problems...the book!
#fediverse newcomers: Welcome to your first collective outrage/sorrow experience! There's some etiquette here for the occasion: the ✨ content warning ✨
If you drop your takes and commiserations under a CW, people can choose to engage with the doomscroll or skip it entirely.
It's not censorship; it's empathy.

#linguistics #signlanguage anyone know when an extended middle finger became ubiquitously a vulgar emblem? I ask because I have observed older folks doing regular indexing with it instead. and it makes sense to me since it is longer than the index ☝️🖕
