:Trek: opinions

I feel like there's like two kinds of Star Trek writers:

* Leftists who manage to sneak bits of their progressive message into the script before it's caught and watered down by people higher-up the chain, with varying success
* Confused bros who think the good part of Star Trek is the space battles and their sexist retro-futurist mis-readings of it

I'm not caught up with Picard

But the plot moves very slowly

So I'm still trying to figure out which type of writer gave us Picard

@bgcarlisle didn't Roddenberry explicitly want the future to be leftist? Wasn't that kind of his whole goal with TNG? I mean, he was a communist, after all (unless that's a myth I haven't properly fact-checked)

:Trek: opinions

@marie_joseph @bgcarlisle yep, though he had weird blind spots and problems of his own. But the two categories could basically be Roddenberries and Bermans, and the Bermans have been entirely unopposed since DS9 went off the air

@bgcarlisle the type who thinks Star Trek is a combination of the TNG movies, TNG memes, and the pop culture idea of Trek and uses that as a backdrop to reference random stuff without having a clear message?

:Trek: opinions and Picard

@skipsageneration TOS movies too, sometimes, but only the even-numbered ones

:Trek: opinions and Picard

@bgcarlisle too bad since Star Trek V is a gold mine of characters. Discovery episodes where General Korrd’s legendary strategies are at least referenced or shown or where Sybok is there? A Captain Klaa spinoff that has nothing but fights and explosions and guys in muscle shirts enthusiastically delivering lines in Klingon?

So what if Paramount owns it? They should pay for the rights and make everyone who believes in the 25% rule lose their minds
