I would love to see people use for argument diagramming and have it work well. I wonder how many misunderstandings it would help people resolve.

@Gargron Ah, I'm not familiar enough with Hume; did he do a bunch of diagramming?

@bthall he believed that the main reason people had disagreements in the first place was because they understood the terms used in the argument differently

That would be really cool to do but I'm afraid it would be extremely difficult. Most of computational semantics is pretty superficial so breaking an argument into its essential parts is probably beyond it.

However, this would be really useful.

@bthall I'm not sure that would help. If someone is actually interested in looking at diagrams to resolve a misunderstanding then I'm pretty sure they would be equally open to just, you know, talking about stuff instead of asking a computer to solve a social problem.
