A "hybrid" course at #CHI2022 in which the instructor and all registered (paying) attendees were remote. Someone was guarding the door to make sure nobody snuck in to watch the Zoom session being projected to the completely empty room.

@yaxu @mako Yes, fully virtual events can be great. I went to a social alumni event on gather.town this weekend. It was nice. You could move around and form smaller group discussions, but I didn't have to pay hundreds of dollars for a flight to attend. There is still a lot of promise to the virtual gathering model to iterate upon.
