It's important to celebrate yourself. It's great, and I love to see it.
It's not like a rule or anything, but don't feel like you shouldn't talk about how excited/happy you are about a success. I want to celebrate with you!

I know generating a transcript may take more time and effort. Are there useful tools to help with this? If there are captions already on a video is there something that can be used to auto create a transcript from them? And one that is accessible for screen readers?

There are many reasons to post a transcript with a video. First, accessibility. Also, skimmability (a word?)—good for anyone who wants to know if it’s going to be worth their time to invest an hour or more in watching an extended recording. Real-time captions don’t help much with that.

Let's see if people at #OEGlobal22 see this post on the NZ-based Fediverse! This is how open-and-distributed works... I wonder who the first attendee from, say, the northern hemisphere to see and boost it will be...

So I bought Lynda Barry's *Making Comics* and Ivan Brunetti's *Cartooning* and I can't wait to dive in and play!

Note: I am an absolute beginner and my people are blobs with circles for hands and feet. And I love them.

Here are some doodles I made while working with that book this morning. The last one is an exercise in picturing a future you would love.

Last week I attended a "Creativity in the Open" day, with sessions on drawing, comics, theatre, music, and much more:

And it reminded me deeply and emotionally how much I used to love doing doodles and sketchnotes and generally making marks on paper with pens & colours and how the pandemic stress has led me away. And how I so much am excited to go back. Time spent creating, I remember now, is so, so important in many ways! And "creating" means many things ...

While I agree that the research pointing to the devastation that the pandemic has had on female academic productivity is a thing, I worry that it still frames "academic productivity" as a numbers game that we all should be playing in a particular way.

I'm giving a short intro to #openscience (very broadly defined) to PhD students this week.
