In case people missed it, the whole University of California system (public unis in California) cancelled their subscriptions and deals with Elsevier 🎇 the split is over open access, lock-in, and exorbitant pricing

We have 2 to 3 feet of snow on the roof of our house already. Supposed to get 6 to 9 inches of heavy, wet snow tonight. Hoping the roof doesn't collapse!

a quick update on our #openscience feedback on #plan_S 

I really hate when I have some technical/programming based thing I want to do, but don't really know how to do. I keep putting it off because I can't find the time it will take me to learn how to do the thing.

Just finished cleaning 7 inches of snow off the driveway. Now they're predicting another 9+ inches for tonight through tomorrow.

Another day of schools closed for the kids. That's 5 of the last 6 days now...

From the last page of a book I recently finished:

"…the funny thing is I've got tenure now after all these years. It doesn't matter what happens to my job; I've got tenure in the only place it counts. In here." He tapped his chest.

We are supposed to hit wind chills of -60°F next week. Wonder if that's enough to cancel classes? 🤔
