email, work/life balance

I've been trying to do a better job of staying off of work email on the weekends. Of course this now means that I've come to dread Monday mornings and the first look at my computer.

COVID, idiots, and local politics

Some of the locals attended a city council meeting and called for the university to shutdown so that "those professor can go without pay for a while like the rest of us have."

They maybe forget that many of the businesses in this small town depend on the university to exist in the first place.

Made it through developing the videos for the first third of one of my classes. About 4.5 hours in total.

As I've worked on my Fall course prep, I've discovered just how locked down my university has our LMS. Can't install any of the apps I want to. 😒

alcohol mention in alt text

There are worse ways to do some work on a Friday afternoon.

face masks, Trump mention

Post on local board, "Looking for face masks for petite face, something fashionable, puppies or Trump preferred."

Today seems like a good day for our septic pump to stop working.

Get yourself a partner who looks at you the way this lamb looks at my son.

It's the first Monday of June! That means I'm getting emails from all of the people asking me to do all of the things.

That thing when you have a great idea for a web domain, but you probably don't need another website/blog to maintain.

COVID, university planning

My campus is taking about having faculty wear face shields and full PPE while in the classroom in the Fall. I personally am looking forward to lecturing to a fogged up face shield.

I have to prepare a voice-over Powerpoint for a virtual conference. Anybody know how to do one with two people remotely located both providing voice-over?

I think this might be the first Wikipedia article that I've contributed from scratch. Written about someone I found in my family history. Something like 11 generations back.

Remote Work, group calls

Current status: On an MS Teams call with 90+ faculty and admin. So many unmuted mics and unnecessary video streams.

#COVID19, internships, student impacts

I manage the internship program for my students and we've now started seeing the COVID19 related cancellations of internship offers. This is going to be difficult to cope with for students trying to progress in their careers.

COVID-19, travel woes, progress

Made it back to the US after a long day of travel from London, through JFK, and on to Minneapolis. The extra screening at JFK was very minimal and quite quick. Now we isolate for a couple of weeks in an AirBnB. The kids might lose it being so close but not being able to see the grandparents.
