Another day in the lab, another day where .zsh_history rescues me from my own horrible note-taking habits 🤣

Hello world! Welcome to #OctoPrint's humble presence on Mastodon!

I'm still setting things up and I'm also still recovering from being way too overworked, so don't expect tons of content to start pouring in immediately here.

Will have to think a bit on how best to be present here, and also set up some automations (posts on the OctoBlog, new plugin 's on the repo...). Sound good?

Oh, and: 🐙❤️🦣!

I'm so glad to have discovered this world (mastodon and the fediverse) and it has reignited my optimism for open-source and shared internet resources. Along those lines, I'm learning about audio streaming options, and curious to hear what people like for sharing and streaming and open-source

@carbontwelve Please add me to 3D Printing, Academia, Education, Hardware, Makers, Musicians, Physics, Science, Single-board computers, Synth DIY.

Did you see the news that all of the #JWST instruments are aligned now?

Check out this comparison of one of the newly released calibration images from the MIRI instrument compared to images taken of the same region of space by the WISE and Spitzer space telescopes! Look at that resolution! So many newly resolved stars and structures! 🤩

I can't wait for all the new discoveries we'll make with JWST! #Science data starts in only a couple months!

I have encountered more image descriptions on Mastodon in 24 hours than I have in Twitter in a couple of years. Seriously. I'm not exaggerating.
As a blind person, this means a lot to me. If you read this and you describe your images, thank you so, so, so much on behalf of all of us. If you don't, now you know you'll be helping random Internet strangers make sense of your posts by typing in a few more words than usual.

Related to a post I made a day or two ago about burnout being moral injury, here is an anonymous article by a faculty member declaring "Academic Chapter 11"--which, for those not in the US, means a kind of bankruptcy.

Another #introduction tip for new Mastodon users ( like me ):

Unlike Twitter, which shows strangers' posts in your feed once they get popular or once your friends like them, Mastodon appears to only show you posts by people you're following and posts they've boosted ( which is Mastodon-ese for RT )

So if you appreciate someone else's post and you also want your followers to see it too, you need to click those boost arrows. Just clicking the fave star won't make it visible to your followers.

"To help some of the newcomers make connections: name 5-7 things that interest you but aren't in your profile, as tags so they are searchable. Then boost this post or repeat its instructions so others know to do the same."
