I'm debating about what kinda fun facts to throw y'alls way, but I've got a bit of a brain fart going on.

Any requests for animal or animal-adjacent facts that you'd like to know more about? Feel free to leave a reply and I'll tag you once I get a post up about your topic!

(animal adjacent = pretty much anything that falls within the fields of bio, chem, or environmental science)

Sharing this info and a couple of recipes about using acorns as a food source! This content came from the quarterly newsletter my tribe's administration puts out; acorns were, and still are, albeit to a lesser extent, an important staple food of Northern California indigenous peoples, my tribes included!

And a little native language lession! Words for acorns according to my tribes!

Northern Pomo: Bidu
Konkow Maidu: Hä’-hä

A friend who's a library programmer called computers "microchipped treason buckets" and, as someone who works with computers... I love it.

depression & therapy

I know there are a lot of conflicting views on therapy/therapists, and I've had some really nasty experiences in the past. But sometimes I gotta shine a spotlight when things go right.

My therapist saw me yesterday, much earlier than normal considering I skipped out on work, and identified not only the emotional root of my recent down-spiral, but also gave me a few thinking focuses to significantly lift my mood!

Plus I got to science-splain blackholes to him!

In recent news: I did wake up this morning but decided my headspace wasn't strong enough to drive to work. I managed to update my health insurance info and car registration though, so I can say I was sort of productive.

Also I learned that the nearest dept. of motor vehicles shares a building with a "trampoline sport complex". So... that's a thing... :BlobCatGooglyShrug:

Academic job market joke

~ University Career Site FAQ ~

Q. What options are there for academics who don't land a tenure-track job?

A. Cartoon supervillainy is a time-honoured tradition for many academics whose research fails to receive the requisite funding

It's so fucking telling though that (at least in my working class world) a stock response to "how're you doing?" is a weary "livin' the dream" as shorthand for "I'm underpaid, overworked, and tired all the time."

People know the system is busted.
