I don't use a screen reader, but I benefit from image descriptions too because they help me understand what the poster wanted to communicate with the image. They're especially helfpul when it's a screenshot of something I don't have context for.

@gweezlouise I block images over 200kb and I often use a textual fedi client that doesn't download images by default, so image descriptions are often all I see. A good example of the curb-cut effect.

@gweezlouise Tbh in those cases that info should be in the post text. Some clients kinda suck and don't display the alt text reliably. At least the default web app does not show it on mobile, since it's tied to a hover action, which doesn't work at all or doesn't work reliably on a touch screen.
