What do you think of the idea of using as a platform for projects ?
Something like project
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polymath
would be more fun and easier that way.

@harikesh I think mastodon for research would be... very tedious. But let's narrow down our discussion. Using it to coordinate a paper or a grant funded project would be ... frustrating. And I'm not sure what sort of research operates in the UDP model of "it's ok to miss most messages, but we really want to repeat some messages"

I think we're talking about different things though.

@DenubisX
Thats true..🤔 I think some platform like this would be interesting though..

@harikesh Oh, it could be, but the message patterns need to map to the problem and coordination needs. The problem is that decentralised and concentrated effort don't match well (by definition.) So, part of the question is "Where is UDP a good protocol?" and "What sorts of problems does UDP solve?"

@harikesh As a paper recommendation engine, it could work. Reframe it as a peer review methodology, maybe "Abstract papers chosen by a bot and add them to a citation engine?" So it's an inspiration engine?

@harikesh An instance dedicated to small projects wouldn't make much sense unless the instance doesn't federate, and at that point you might as well run a an open slack alt
