Don't feel bad or ashamed if you spend your week-end sleeping, resting.
It's *it's purpose*.
And in itself, resting is **not** doing nothing.
It's taking care of yourself, and allowing to gather back some energy. Some time to yourself.
Resting *is* doing something, for you. And it's a good thing to do sometimes.
"i use linux as my operating system," i state proudly to the unkempt, bearded man. he swivels around in his desk chair with a devilish gleam in his eyes, ready to mansplain with extreme precision.
"actually," he says with a grin, "linux is just the kernel. you use GNU+linux."
i don't miss a beat and reply with a smirk, "i use alpine, a distro that doesn't include the GNU coreutils, or any other GNU code. it's linux, but it's not GNU+linux."
the smile quickly drops from the man's face. his body begins convulsing and he foams at the mouth as he drop to the floor with a sickly thud. as he writhes around he screams "I-IT WAS COMPILED WITH GCC! THAT MEANS IT'S STILL GNU!"
coolly, i reply "if windows was compiled with gcc, would that make it GNU?" i interrupt his response with "and work is being made on the kernel to make it more compiler-agnostic. even if you were correct, you won't be for long."
with a sickly wheeze, the last of the man's life is ejected from his body. he lies on the floor, cold and limp. i've womansplained him to death.
learning to program is stressful lmao
honestly the more i learn about programming the more amazing it seems to me that things have gotten to where they are today
learning C is HARD AF and messes up SO EASILY and at the time it was revolutionary bc it made things so much easier to understand for humans
i have so much respect for those early (mostly women) of computing who had to do everything by hand in binary / hex / machine language / assembly. like wow.
somehow all of that turned into these massive online worlds and programs that do so many more complicated things than arithmetic and have been invested w so much meaning
but in the meantime i just crashed my tiny program bc i forgot to use strcopy and tried to make one char* equal another
This is an amazing video on the history of the universe as we understand it today, illustrated with an absurdly long domino train.
"Welcome to Magic School. Here is your schedule."
"This is just 'Ethics' and 'Human rights' and things like that."
"Correct, that's the first year curriculum."
"Do we have to learn all this?"
"Of course! What do you think this is, software engineering?"

Why women in psychology can't program
"About two months ago my brother, who works in data science on social psychology data, asked me why his colleagues, who are women and have PhDs in psychology, cannot code"
Yesterday, I taught Math students about conditionals in the Intro to Logic course. Today, I gave the same lecture to AI students. When we tested them with Wason's card selection task during the break, their answers turned out to be quite different! #logic #students #mentimeter (via birdsite https://twitter.com/RinekeV/status/1067392497511526400)
#sinterklaas is geen 'kinderfeestje', kinderen zijn adaptief en open voor verandering. Dit is een nostalgie masturbatie feestje voor volwassenen.
Translation: Sinterklaas is no 'children's-party'. Children are adaptive and open to change. This is a nostalgia-masturbation party for adults.
