The major aggregator for philosophy jobs in the English-speaking world has listed thirty tenure-track jobs. For the entire year. It's May.

Without some kind of serious compensating action – I'm talking a few years of actual, concrete, above-average numbers – these are worldwide-crisis grade numbers that will cost us an entire cohort of scholars, and harm countless departments. (Administration w/o a balance of junior & senior faculty is hell.)

@pence Indeed. Although from the same data in daily nous it looks like there is a downward trend in available positions even before COVID.

@okf I just refreshed and saw the "update" that perhaps there's a data quality concern. I would be interested to see the numbers collected from the job-posting side rather than the appointments side of the site; I have the feeling that the former is more complete than the latter.
