I'm sorry but if the FCC thinks no one should be without internet during the pandemic, it should be a public utility, like water and power. PERIOD.

any change that happens in the US will be at the behest of a well organized movement. the person in the white house can be an ally to that or not. i too think it would be nice to have an ally there, but it doesn't change the strategy at all if there is a neo-con wearing a liberal mask there or a far-right demagogue instead

the power is with the people. we have to fight to take it all. all power to all the people

Hello world!

We're slowly making progress towards our first product. It's a standard 65% PCB with hotswap sockets. It's powered by the open source software QMK and it features a standard ISO-layout to fit as much people as possible.

Our goal is to make custom keyboards easy and available for everyone.

I have a question for the people owning a #pinephone.

I really like the concept of the #pinephone and i can order one today.

Do you think it will be updated/polished enough to eventually be used as a daily driver? I really don't want to get it and not be able to use it daily as i think that it would not be ecological for met to get it for a short time use object.

What are your opinions?

I would like to fund someone to build a todoist like interface to #orgmode. Contact me. Boosts welcome.

Huh, an awesome documentary about the porytral of Native Americans in film in the 20th Century produced in part by the National Film Board of Canada is on Netflix

And it's not playable in Canada.

🙄

(You should absolutely watch "Reel Injun" (2009) if you can, it looks like a really great documentary: gizmodo.com/reel-injun-looks-a)

What are news and media stuff on the fediverse?

I'm interested in seeing what news and media coverage there are on the fediverse. Only one I know is @gamingonlinux which cover games.

I have a huge preference for libre software type stuff and non profit and community-built organizations. 😁

"The city of Dunkirk in northern France launched a revamped bus system last year with a twist – it’s completely free. A new study shows that the programme is not only revitalising the city center but also helping the environment. (...) In this largely working-class city, “people of limited means say they’ve rediscovered transport” – a prerequisite to finding a job, maintaining friendships or participating in local arts and culture."

every time they ask to use "Times font" I put in Brill (sometimes falling back to Charis for complex IPA). and if they ask "Arial" (for body) I put in Myriad. (unless page counts are involved.)

So far nobody has ever complained about it.

I think "Times" and "Arial" are often used as lay terms for "serif" and "sans".

To #emacs #orgmode users: can you take a minute to fill this survey on whether to change the default settings for 10 options in Org 9.4?

Hey, #botany and #plant friends of Mastodon: Send me your recommendations on what to read/watch to learn the basics of plant biology.

I'm a lay person, but would like to get a grasp of the key mechanisms at work in plant life. Long reads are good, as long as they start with the equivalent of high school biology.

anyone have any personal strategies you employ to get over the concentration hump and work on something? looking for some ways to change my current working habits to be more consistent.

Was trying different music stream services. Tidal and Amazon music, even if the prices seem ok, force you to provide name, address and phone number for no reason. To even try the 30 days trial you are forced to even give a credit card number. Ain't beating Spotify like that.

#emacs #orgmode 9.3.6, a bugfix release, is out. Enjoy!

The next release will be 9.4, with new features. Coming soon.

Question for the hardware folks around here: what's the correct term for these kinds of rigid-but-bent PCBs? Any good link/reference about those?

How do you manufacture them?
