Hello #fediverse! I'm a scientist and entrepreneur interested in #freeknowledge business models and reimagining scholarship to be more diverse and inclusive. I've used #FOSS commercially for thirty years. ❤️
More stuff: I'm an atheist Jew. Born in Kyiv, #Ukraine. Family fled USSR in 70s via Italy. First language Russian. Grew up in Canada and a Canadian citizen. Lived longest in USA where I met my spouse and had a kid. We now live across the fence from our best friends. #introduction

Oh, and I am a big #cat lover 😸

Hello, scholar social! Here's my #introduction
I'm here from the Ecology & Evolutionary Biology dept at the University of Toronto and the Palaeobiology dept at the Royal Ontario Museum.
I'm a PhD Candidate studying growth and life history in extant and extinct cats, using both observational data (collected by others) and data from the growth record preserved in bone (collected by me)! See below for what a fossil Smilodon bone looks like under the microscope 👀
That last post encourages me to do a bit of #introduction: I direct a #DH research center and academic program at Michigan State University. My official credentials say I'm a professor of English, but I'm currently writing about the present failures, and future demands, of academic #leadership.
About time for an #introduction
I work in research support for a UK HE library having previously worked with library collections & discovery. I still love #metadata
I make research #OpenAccess and work with library systems with an interest in #UX and #accessibility
Hello! I'm a #PostDoc in evolutionary #protistology. I study #evolution, #biodiversity, and #symbiosis in #protists ( = eukaryotic #microbes = #SingleCelled critters more complex than bacteria - eg. #amoebae, #ciliates, #flagellates, #microalgae, etc.) mostly using #genomics and #bioinformatics.
I come from #Prague, CZ & currently live in #Orsay, FR.
I'm interseted in #diversity & #evolution of all life, #earth & #space #science, #languages, #religion, #progressive politics.
#introduction Hello there. I am an #HCI researcher and educator, super interested in #tech #design that counters #cultural biases and #oppression. I am working at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA, US. I love #coffee, #books, #photography, and long-distance #cycling. I intend to toot about my research field and learning process (for example, on #decolonial design).
#Introductions Hi y'all, new here! 👋 I'm Tori & I'm currently studying law. In particular, I study #Abolition, #CivilRights, and #CrimLaw. I studied #English and #History in undergrad.
I love all things #Linguistics, history, law and equity, and other general humanities studies. I also love #Science and I love researching #MarineBiology and #Flora. #QueerStudies, #DisabilityJustice, and #HarmReduction.
Basically, I have a lot of interests! Nice to meet you!
Hi,
I'm Daniel from #Barcelona. Actually I'm working at Episcopal Public Library. I'm interesting in library history, automatization and free software into #libraries.

Živjo! Hallo! #Introductions I'm PhD student at University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. Researching the articulation of standard Slovenian consonants. Practicing acoustics phonetics. Teaching several linguistics tutorials in Slovenian language (Phonetics, Phonology, Morphology etc.). Technology enthusiast, learning #LaTeX and #R, and #Praat scripting language. In my free time I play strategy and RPG games, read Old High German texts etc. 🇸🇮 🇩🇪
Guess I'll add my piece to the #introductions! I'm a PhD student at Lund Uni, working on oat #genomics and #bioinformatics. I've done work in genome annotation and gene mapping. I work a lot in R #tidyverse, and am a occasional contributor to #bioconda and #snakemake wrappers. Used to do more #Python work, but fell in love with magrittr pipes, and now struggle to imagine processing data without them <3 I'm a happy #stats amateur, keen on learning more about best practice modelling!
oh, further #introduction: I'm also very interested in #ArchiveEmotions: acknowledging that doing research is an embodied, ethical, emotional endeavour and that that shapes what we search for and see.
I'm intrigued how little space we make for that in our formal publications; it's confined to coffee chats, social media, blogs, etc.
On the bird site #histodons had a great conversation about that: https://wakelet.com/wake/ad58e179-0f21-4b6a-8308-76317bc59364
Hello world, this is my #introduction:
I am a doctoral candidate at the Research Group for Applied Software Engineering (Prof. Bruegge) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). My research focuses on computer science education and automated assessments of textual exercises. In addition, I am teaching the lecture courses Introduction to Software Engineering (~2,200 students) and Patterns in Software Engineering (~700 students) at TUM.

Interested in science and the natural environment. Have studied basic engineering, biology and then geology. Got a MSc and PhD in Sedimentology and an equiv MSc in pedagogy for higher education. I have worked in geophysics and computer science now mostly in environmental oceanography. I am passionate about the Ocean. I left Academia and dedicated my life to fighting industrial plastic pollution on the West Coast and islands of Scotland using circular economy. Consultant sometimes
Hello! #introduction #introductions
I'm Avery, I'm the international cultivar registration authority (ICRA) for the #Tradescantia genus.
I'm responsible for registering new cultivar names and keeping track of old ones. At the moment I'm working on historic research to make an initial checklist of every name that's ever been documented.
I'll be posting updates on here, but the best info will be on tradescantia.uk!
Friends on Scholar, I recommend using either the Masto web app, or an app that:
🍍allows you to set Unlisted as your default posting setting, and
🍍allows you to add image descriptions
Otherwise you may end up spamming the Local Timeline with stuff that should be Unlisted, or you might end up having offending posts removed, as per our Community Standards
This means, confusingly, that the "official" Mastodon iOS app is a bad choice, I'm afraid, as it provides no way to post as Unlisted

#introduction Hello everyone! I am a scientist @CNRS, in computational biophysics and the methodology of computational science. The second topic puts me at the interface with computer science and software engineering. Computational reproducibility has been a major topic for me over the last years, and now I am looking into computational media (rather than tools) for doing scientific research.
