Social media, including the fediverse, is not secure or safe. Do not organize resistance, mutual aid, civil disobedience, etc. via these platforms. Fascists and opportunists WILL try to exploit these channels to disrupt, defame, threaten, injure, and kill, all in the interest of sadism and profit.

In person, without devices, with people you know is best. End-to-end encrypted apps are second best.

@telliott to add to the last bit, Signal seems to be consistently evaluated as a good option, right? A common recommendation is also to have messages disappear after some amount of time - no need to have texts laying around unnecessarily - can't find what's not there.

@nikostr I see signal recommended alot, and that would probably be my default. Deleting stuff matters, but if one doesn't control the entire environment end-to-end, and access to it throughout its lifecycle, "delete" may not actually remove everything from where it might be found.

@telliott right! To clarify, this was not to endorse texting about stuff unnecessarily, only to say that disappearing messages are a good way to minimize the amount of info that's floating around your devices.
