Please direct your friends to joinmastodon.org or another instance of your choice like octodon.social, toot.cat or toot.cafe, etc. mastodon.social is "default" choice for a lot of people and it's getting kinda hammered right now.

This might be a tipping point. @TheWeirdTeacher is on here now. I have fewer reasons than ever to check Twitter now.

All day TAG training today.

Doing my best to set aside my thoughts about limiting activities only to TAG kids (And I WAS a TAG kid...), in part because the person running the training is a good friend as well as my supervisor.

Also we get to make stuff with LEDs today, which is going to be fun.

I am going to regret going out while still feeling nauseous but I need medicine, groceries & kitty litter.

Two of those things can't really be put off for much longer.

Having even the slightest idea of what to say in another person's moment of grief is a new and scary experience for me.

I do not consider this knowledge to be worth the cost, and am not happy for the opportunity to make use of it.

Everyone… please be sure to reach out to your friends and remind them that you love them and they're important today.

The moral of this story: Don't assume fair use. Assume that if permission isn't given, you need to ask before you use it.

Putting my sick leave in last night was the right call.

And now I'm going to try to be less than useless by grading as much student work as possible, though from the look of my attempt last night I should probably hold back on writing elaborate comments.

Was sick enough to come home early, in spite of the inconvenience it caused for coworkers.

(At least I powered through the Kindergarten lesson. Both K teachers were out today so I'm glad to have seen them, even if their class convinced me I had to go home.)

After sitting still for an hour I was feeling a little better so I took out some garbage.

I now have many regrets about attempting to be moderately active.

OK, so from what I'm seeing IFTTT doesn't crosspost CWs. I'm guessing they count as a title? Dunno, but this is fixable.

Scholar Social

A Mastodon instance for academics

Scholar Social is a microblogging platform for researchers, grad students, librarians, archivists, undergrads, academically inclined high schoolers, educators of all levels, journal editors, research assistants, professors, administratorsβ€”anyone involved in academia who is willing to engage with others respectfully.

We strive to be a safe space for queer people and other minorities, recognizing that there can only be academic freedom where the existence and validity of interlocutors' identities is taken as axiomatic.

"Official" monthly journal club!

(Participation is, of course, optional)

Scholar Social features a monthly "official" journal club, in which we try to read and comment on a paper of interest.

Any user of Scholar Social can suggest an article by sending the DOI by direct message to @socrates@scholar.social and one will be chosen by random lottery on the last day of the month. We ask that you only submit articles that are from *outside* your own field of study to try to ensure that the papers we read are accessible and interesting to non-experts.
