Fellow linguists, does anybody know of some scholarship on the semantics of dinner vs. supper (and occasionally lunch)?
Q: London travel advice Show more
I gave my son a trip to #London on his birthday. It's time to fulfill that promise.
Is there some special time we should go there this summer? Suggestions on accomodation and things like that?
I don't even know what questions to ask, I'm a beginner when it comes to travel. I'm on a rather strict budget and I'm no stranger to adventures.
Request for help (librarians especially!!); Boosts++ Show more
I've got a request from a friend on another instance for help looking for scholarly resources about audience engagement with the performing arts, specifically marching bands, if possible
Would there be a librarian available to point us in the right direction?

maps and open source Show more
So, one of the revisions that was requested for my thesis is that I include some illustrative maps. The problem: I only have two weeks to do this. Are there any open source or free to reproduce map archives out there?
I need help with quantitative research “decoding.” My background is *not* psych but my masters degree (masters of Family Therapy) requires the current research methods course.
I’m watching some YouTube vids on concepts such as Kappa coefficients but does anyone have other sources for a crash course? I took stats in undergrad... but that was over 20 years ago.
Thanks, friends -

one name, different spellings in citations Show more
Europeans! Do you have a 'best practice' for citing authors whose names are spelled differently on the title pages of different works? This is common with researchers from Scandinavia, Russia(-aev, -ayev, -aiev), Germany (ß vs. ss, ue vs. ü), or the Arab world ... I feel like I should normalize the spellings #citationPractices

I wanted to use the tikz filter with tikz-qtree.sty trees inside figure environments. This filter seems to work:

I'm periodically having people email me to say that confirmation emails aren't going through
Does anyone have good ideas on how to diagnose / fix this sort of problem?
It has mostly been people with Hotmail / Outlook addresses
(But then I'm pretty sure that we've had successful signups from those domains too, so I'm not sure)
